5 barbershops in Manila you may have overlooked

nolisoli barbershops

This month last year, we released a list of barbershops in the metro. It was already extensive, but there seems to be a growing demand in the market for proper grooming rituals. So we’re taking notes of cutting floors again—some are newly-opened and some are just really elusive to the public’s mere eyes.

The Refined

2F Fort Point II Bldg., The Fort Strip
Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

The Refined prefers to be called “a gentleman’s experience” rather than a barbershop. It has towering glass windows, which allow the natural light to accentuate the room full of character designed with industrial interiors. It’s a lounge where you can have a drink while getting a haircut, indulge in their man-cave for spa services ran by aestheticians trained under the renowned Mandala Spa in Boracay, or just hang out on their leather couch to get some work done.

The Refined is a lot of things. Check their website for more information.

John Barbers is another premier lounge. Located in Legaspi Village and Ascott Hotel in Makati City, this barbershop is non-Philippine peso-friendly as it also accepts U.S. Dollars. Its leather chairs are impressive, which has USB ports and electrical sockets for your gadgets, as well as earphone plugs. Mirrors have TVs and built-in speakers. It also boasts its Nap Room, which has a single bed, a desk, and a chair, if ever you feel like doing some work. They also have a Shower Lounge, which is like a hotel washroom stocked with toiletries.

The Thirsty Barber by Felipe and Sons Barberdashery

GF Promenade Mall, Wilson cor. P. Guevarra Sts.
Addition Hills, San Juan City
0977-3608130

What’s special about The Thirsty Barber is the speakeasy behind its barbershop. The bar, which is open from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., is hidden behind the bookshelf of the cutting floors managed by Felipe and Sons Barberdashery. MasterChef Philippines winner JR Royol is the one in charge of the kitchen, whipping up bar chows to complement specialty cocktails, beers, and all sorts of alcohol.

Bond St. Social

59 Aguirre Ave.
BF Homes, Parañaque
801-9415, 0917-6872663

Now, this one’s in the south. The name’s inspired by the oldest barbershop built in Old Bond St. in London over a century ago. Although Bond St. Social’s barbers specializes in classic undercuts and skin fades, they’re also as versatile as any other skilled cutters. Watch out for specials and discounts they offer!

The Fine Gentleman

Stall 5, Community Center, Suha St.,
Valle Verde 1, Pasig City

This is another neighborhood barbershop inspired by American barbershops. However, it actually classifies itself as a “concept store.” With bespoke and carefully-modified interiors, The Fine Gentleman specializes in giving sleek haircuts, groomed beards, and tailor-made suits.
