Celebrated designer Cesar Gaupo passes away
His work has greatly contributed to Filipino fashion today
Jan 19, 2019
One of Philippine fashion’s biggest names, Cesar Gaupo, passed away in his sleep today, Jan. 19. He had just turned 72 early this month.
Gaupo was known for his innovative designs, especially in the world of high fashion. But his work and ideas also penetrated the racks—and closets—through more accessible markets, as he was also one of the pioneers of Philippine ready-to-wear fashion. Gaupo helped in the development of fashion design as early as the ’70s.
Aside from his contributions to local fashion, Gaupo also had the distinction of being one of the few Filipinos to have headed the creative design team of foreign brand, Shanghai Tang, in 2000.
