Need a special cut of meat or a hard-to-find cheese? These online grocers might have them
Home cooks, rejoice! No need to travel far and wide (or at all) to source these hard to find ingredients
Sep 4, 2020
Before the notorious fall of the Bon Appetit Test Kitchen’s YouTube channel, I’d religiously watch all their videos and try to recreate them in my own kitchen.
A common problem I’d run into is sourcing their ingredients. It’s one thing to be on the other side of the world, but being in quarantine and looking for pancetta is another challenge (I’m looking at you, Molly Baz). Not to worry, though! These online grocers are making specialty ingredients more accessible for your quarantine cooking needs.
The Bow Tie Duck

Can't forget that delectable cured pork jowl/cheek for your Bucatini all'Amatriciana right? Guanciale Stagionata has a flavor that is less salty but stronger and fattier than its cousin pancetta and a texture that’s somewhat softer and more delicate, which works great when adding to pastas. Still available for your enjoyment (even beyond this pasta recipe!) at The Bow Tie Duck for Php 5250 for Large slabs, approximately 1.8-2kg. (Smaller portions not yet available)
If you’re looking to make a traditional carbonara that would make any nonna proud, The Bow Tie Duck has guanciale available for pre-order right now. They also have a wide selection of other imported meats, wines and ingredients like pancetta, orecchiette, beluga caviar, regional European cheeses, and butter flown in straight from France. Here’s to hoping they open up another pre-order for the famed Beurre Bordier!

Gerald.ph is another online grocer that helps home cooks expand their kitchen repertoire. Aside from the typical deli and grocery fare, they also offer more unique options like guinea fowl, escargot, and duck fat (which is perfect for any confit). If you’re looking for something lighter, they also have an extensive range of vegan, non-dairy, keto-friendly and diabetic-friendly products.
Another online grocery to consider while you’re deepening your bond with your kitchen is Deli.ph. They have showstopping selections like whole duck, live king crabs, live Maine lobsters, and a whole frenched rack of lamb that’s a visual spectacle. If you’re in the mood for some hot pot, Deli.ph also has an Asian deli section filled with shabu shabu favorites like lobster balls, scallops and dumplings.
If you’re in a rush to make a special meal, Delidrop.ph offers same day delivery if you order before noon. Some special items you might find in their online shelves are Japanese seabass, jumbo shrimp, pappardelle, kombucha and a ton of gourmet snacks. Another great thing about Delidrop is they also sell ready-to-cook restaurant favorites from The Moment Group, Shangri-la at The Fort, and a whole host of other brands.
