Through the most adorable Facebook post made on Feb. 15, award-winning Filipino international artist David Medalla announced his marriage to long-time partner Adam Nankervis.
The two were wedded in Women’s Resource Centre, Quezon City last Valentine’s Day with Reverend Crescienco G. Agbaayani Jr. MD. officiating the ceremony and a handful of their friends as witnesses. In celebration of their pride and love, they made it a point to have the LGBTQIA++ flag in full display on the altar during the entire ceremony.
Medalla wrote, “The Rainbow Flag in Tagalog is also known as Bahagari, the rainbow coloured loincloth worn by native Fillipinos. Joy to All!”
Medalla, who was accepted into Columbia University at the age of 12, is best known for his sculptures, performance art, and kinetic art. He’s also made significant contributions to the international art scene such as co-founding the Signals Gallery in London back in 1964, initiating an international organization (of sorts) for multimedia artists called Exploding Galaxy, and, of course, founding and directing the London Biennale.
Adam Nankervis, Medalla’s partner, is an accomplished artist and sculptor in his own right. He is also the International Coordinator for the London Biennale. The two met in New York where Medalla founded the Mondrian Fan Club and Nankervis served as his vice-president.
They are now planning to have another wedding in Australia soon.
