The world says goodbye to British physicist Stephen Hawking, BBC reports.
Although the cause of his death hasn’t been disclosed yet, his children Lucy, Robert, and Tim have released a statement about the passing of their father. “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years,” they said. “He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’ We will miss him forever.”
Hawking is known for his discoveries on black hole and relativity. In 2014, Eddie Redmayne portrayed the physicist in the film The Theory of Everything. Despite his motor neuron disease, Hawking had proven “that one need not lose hope.”
