EDSA and C-5 Road can soon suck it.

Last June 27, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opened an additional 700-meter area of the Laguna Lake Highway. This means the new alternative road that stretches from Bicutan, Taguig City to Taytay, Rizal is nearing completion: 6.7 km. out of 10 km. is now open. The DPWH has only three kilometers left to work on.

Last year, the DPWH initially opened a 4.5-km section of the highway and a 1.5-km part last March. The DPWH aims to finish this project by the end of the year.

The Laguna Lake Highway used to be known as C-6 Dike Road. Now, it’s been upgraded, with 1.5 meter-wide sidewalk and three meter-wide protected bike lane. Napindan, Tapayan, and Barkadahan bridges along the route were also rehabilitated and widened.

The project, which also plays as an “armored elevated dike, protects Taguig City against possible flooding” from Laguna Lake, says DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.
