In compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), all seven-digit landline numbers with an area code of 02 will become eight digits. This initiative is covered by a memorandum order from October 2017.
This memorandum is done to address the insufficient number of assignable exchange codes to the growing number of landline users.
NTC assigned a Public Telephone Entity (PTE) in each telecommunication operator within the 02 local exchange. The PTE identifies what telecommunication company the number is from.
For example, if PLDT is assigned the PTE number eight and their number is (02)-7829187, it will be (02)-8-7829187.
The PTE numbers are as follows:
- 3 for Bayan Telecommunications Inc.
- 5 for Telecommunications Technologies Philippines Inc.
- 6 for ABS-CBN Convergence Inc.
- 7 for Globe Telecommunication, Inc.
- 8 for Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT)
Through the agreement, the migration schedule for the landline numbers will happen on Oct. 6 from 12 m.n. to 5 a.m. During this period, a downtime or no dial tone may be expected for five hours. Provincial and international callers won’t be able to reach the lines in Metro Manila during this time.
Starting Oct. 6, customers should also input the new eight-digit number on all payments that require a telephone number information, otherwise, the payment will not be accepted.
