Danish design company to open its first store in Southeast Asia

The Danish design company Normann Copenhagen opened its first flagship and franchise store across Southeast Asia on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Over the last five years, the brand has acquired an average growth rate of 20 to 25 percent from their Asian market, which, as a blossoming market, is one of the reasons behind establishing the store in Manila.

Distributing to over 87 countries, this brand set to open in Bonifacio Global City will be the first external partner to open a mono-brand store.

Even though this will be their first store, Normann Copenhagen has already been in business with several potential Manila-based partners which are among concept stores in design, fashion, and lifestyle.

“When you have to hand over the responsibility of carrying your brand to someone else, it becomes personal and emotional. You need to know that it will be run in the same way as you would run it. It requires a like-minded partner with the necessary know-how and the right organization and experience. Our local partner is strong in franchising, and we have great confidence in their approach,” said Poul Madsen, CEO, and co-founder of Normann Copenhagen.

The concept behind Normann Copenhagen started in 1999 between two designers, Poul Madsen and Jan Andersen. They first opened a small store in Copenhagen where they sold designer products from several brands as well as their own creations. In 2001, they met Danish designer Simon Karkov where the pair got the idea of Normann Copenhagen from his Norm 69 Lamp.

Danish brand’s style characterizes a minimalistic approach that also gives a light-hearted feel and welcoming look to its designs. They also have a wide selection of colors from neutrals, bold and vibrant shades to cool Nordic palettes.

“In general, we like a design to have clean lines and a certain simplicity. However, there is always [a] little something that adds character to the design. I guess you can call our style minimalism with an attitude,” said Madsen.

Normann Copenhagen is located on the ground floor of One Uptown, Bonifacio Global City.
