Heads up Siargao tourists, Sugba Lagoon will be closed for a month

As part of its annual environmental recovery and rehabilitation efforts, Sugba Lagoon, one of the most famous tourist spots in Del Carmen, Siargao, will be closed off to tourists for a month. The Department of Tourism Caraga announced that the tourist spot will be closed from Jan. 10 to Feb. 10 in order to repair the facility and clean up the area.

The lagoon is known for its blue-green waters favored by cliff-divers. The area is also known as an ideal spot for water activities such as kayaking and snorkeling.

Del Carmen mayor Proserfina Coro notes that the closure is necessary for the environment to recover. “We will use the time to repair the facilities for the safety of the growing number of tourists,” she said. Aside from repairs, they will also be banning single-use plastics once Sugba Lagoon reopens.

Despite the closure, DOT reassures the public that destinations such as the Mangrove Forest, the Kawhagan Sand Bar, and Pamomoan Beach will remain open to tourists.
