As the country continues to combat the spread of COVID-19, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan announced on Twitter last Tuesday, Mar. 17 that the group will donate an initial 4,000-liter supply of alcohol to their hospitals group and the government.
Pangilinan also pledged to continue to raise funds and seek help from foreign suppliers to be able to provide aid for frontline health workers in the coming days.
“In particular, our hospitals group is doing its best to cope with the rising traffic of PUIs and those confirmed positive with the virus by sending our frontline health workers in needed areas and importing face masks and PPEs,” said Pangilinan.
The hospitals group includes Makati Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center and Manila Doctor Hospital among many others.
Prior to this, companies under the corporation such as PLDT and Smart have placed a 30-day payment extension period for all their customers due to the enhanced community quarantine. Meralco, on the other hand, paused meter reading and billing deliveries until further notice.
MPIC also took measures to mitigate the risk of disease transmission among their employees by implementing work from home policy. In addition, vacation and sick leaves will not be consumed, salaries and benefits will be maintained and over 500,000 vitamin tablets are to be distributed among all employees—especially to those who are working in the field.
