This online Lenten exhibit showcases pieces from local artists

Grupo Sining Angono teamed up with Artists of Angono and 3/7 Poetry in presenting an online art exhibit in light of the city artists’ Lenten season tradition.

Titled “Kristo Angono MMXX,” the exhibition is an initiative of the group’s core members and includes pieces made by talented visual artists residing in Angono.

It is inspired by the annual “Kristo” project initiated by Salvador Ching, which featured Bulacan- and Manila-based artists and eventually became a Lenten tradition among art groups in the Philippines.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Grupo Sining Angono decided to continue the showcase via a virtual art exhibit on Facebook, where even more people can view the various pieces from local artists.

Among the works showcased in the exhibit are oil and acrylic on canvas paintings, digital print and mixed media art featuring images of Jesus Christ and his crucifixion.

Some of the artworks are also accompanied by poems courtesy of the Angono 3/7 Poetry Society, including “Pagpapapako sa Kurus” and “Cristo de Colores de Luces” by Richard R. Gappi.

“It is the ardent desire of the group that despite the uncertainty of the times, this coming together of the Angono artists will not only continue what has been started during Lent but will also serve as a way of sharing their talents, to inspire or heal in their own little way, by those who are mostly affected by this deadly pandemic,” said Grupo Sining Angono.
