ABS-CBN formed a team that will be creating education and child development programs to help the government implement distance-learning education systems. According to ABS-CBN president Carlos Katigbak, they will focus their media assets on developing these programs.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is aiming to create a new educational system that allows students to learn from online, television, radio or printed materials while schools are still suspended due to the pandemic. Government channels People’s Television Network and Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation are still in the process of creating educational programs for students.
According to Senate Committee on Public Services vice chair Sherwin Gatchalian, ABS-CBN can help in disseminating information about COVID-19 as well as producing educational content.
The media network previously produced long-running educational television shows such as “Bayani,” “Sineskwela,” “Hiraya Manawari” and “Math Tinik.” Knowledge Channel, which broadcasted educational and informative shows DepEd declared as required viewing in public schools, is also owned by ABS-CBN.
