In order to establish safe and secure physical shelters for health workers in Quezon City, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) plans to build temporary dormitories along East Ave. and Quezon Ave.
In a report submitted to DPWH Head Mark A. Villar, Task Force Head for Augmentation of Health Facilities Emil K. Sadain cited the need to build accommodations for hospital workers as there is no longer space available in hospitals.
Sadan also identified Quezon Memorial Circle and the grounds of Veterans Memorial Medical Center as ideal sites of temporary accommodation, which will house health care workers from East Avenue Medical Center, Philippine Heart Center located at East Avenue, Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute and Veterans Memorial Medical Center.
These dormitories will be made with collapsible components, which can be assembled to accommodate health workers and disassembled for storage when they are no longer needed. This also makes it easier to install dormitories that are in close proximity to hospitals, so health workers can continue to monitor their patients’ health status.
Based on design plans prepared by the DPWH Task Force, a 40-foot modular container can be converted into a one-story dormitory. These can house 16 rooms with separate toilets, as well as areas for laundry and dining.
