With quarantine measures gradually easing, more businesses have been given the go signal to partially resume operations. Part of this are establishments from the entertainment, education and travel sectors—which have been allowed to reopen in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
In a press briefing held on June 9, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez announced the aforementioned sectors will be allowed to reopen at 50 percent capacity in areas under MGCQ. By reopening these businesses, the DTI hopes to save businesses and jobs while stimulating the economy.
Guidelines for health protocols that these businesses need to follow have yet to be released by DTI:
- Entertainment: kid amusement facilities, cinemas, theaters and karaoke bars
- Cultural centers: libraries, archives and museums
- Sports facilities: gyms and fitness studios, as long as their activities are conducted outdoors.
- Travel services: tourist destinations, travel agencies, tour operators and reservation services
- Personal care services: massage parlors, saunas, facial care and waxing stations
- Educational support: testing centers, tutorial and review centers, and language, driving, dancing, acting, and voice schools
- Internet and computer shops, provided that these are only used for educational purposes
As of writing, all areas in the country are now under MGCQ, except for Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Region II, Region III, Region IV-A, Region VII, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Zamboanga City and Davao City which are still under general community quarantine.
