In a Facebook post on July 14, Vice President Leni Robredo announced that her team will start sharing daily COVID-19 updates.
The updates are still based on the reports of the Department of Health but it will include an epidemic curve created by the University of the Philippines (UP) COVID-19 Response Team. This is to determine if the country is already flattening the curve.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the epi curve is a “visual display of the onset of illness among cases associated with an outbreak.” It can assess the magnitude of the pandemic, mode of transmission or spread or if the country is performing well in battling the outbreak.
Besides this tracker, Robredo has already provided dorms and free shuttles for frontliners in Cebu and is currently working on building learning hubs where students can have free access to computers and tutorials.
“We all have a responsibility to perform for us to be able to achieve this [flattening the curve]. This includes not just following health and safety protocols but also doing our share in helping those in need,” read Robredo’s statement.
As of July 14, the Philippines has 57,545 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 20,459 recovered and 1,603 deaths.
