Maintaining your mental health isn’t just difficult, it’s also expensive. But Quezon City is helping its citizens shoulder some of the cost.
A public service announcement from the Quezon City government stated that the local government unit (LGU) will be helping its registered residents who are persons with disabilities by providing access to select medications.
According to a Facebook post on the LGU’s official page, Quezon City residents who are registered persons with disability card holders can avail of their prescription medications at their barangay health centers. All they have to do is present their prescription to avail of the medication.
The following are the available medicines that residents can avail of:
• Clozapine 100 mg tablets
• Biperiden 2 mg tablets
• Chlorpromazine 100 mg tablets
• Lithium Carbonate 450 mg tablets
• Sertraline 50 mg tablets
• Escitalopram Oxalate 10 mg tablets
• Quetiapine 200 mg tablets
• Valproic acid tablets
Maintenance medication for mental illnesses is costly to maintain. The cost of some types of medication can range in the hundreds for a single tablet. And that’s just the medicine. According to anecdotal evidence, a typical visit with a psychiatrist can cost anywhere from P1,000 to P3,000 for a regular consultation. Some specialists can even cost more.
Quezon City is also helping its residents by offering free mental health consultations with the help of Quezon City General Hospital’s online service. The consultations are done online with a minimal P40 fee to collect any prescriptions from the hospital.
