Add watching Ballet Philippines’ ‘The Nutcracker’ to your holiday plans

The holiday season is all but officially here, and why not celebrate with an evening at the ballet? Ballet Philippines is bringing back one of the most iconic ballets to help everyone feel a little magic this Christmas—which is something we all desperately need.

To cap off its latest season, the storied ballet company will be running the full-length version of Tchaikovsky’s classic two-act ballet, “The Nutcracker.” Choreographed by Ballet Philippines’ artistic director Mikhail “Misha” Martynyuk, the performance will feature a new and exciting take on the classic ballet.

“We are creating a fresh version while still respecting the classical version of the play. The performance will not only uphold the motives of E.T.A Hoffman’s Nutcracker and The Mouse King, it equally showcases the brilliant libretto of Marius Petipa,” Martynyuk explains.

Made even more special, the performance will be accompanied live by the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

“The uniqueness of our performance is its high level of musicality. Every scene is built precisely to the rhythm of the composer’s work,” adds Martynyuk.

For those unfamiliar with the classic play, “The Nutcracker” tells the story of a girl named Marie who is magically transported to another world on Christmas Eve. She must journey alongside her now-animated Nutcracker in his fight against the evil Mouse King.

Ballet Philippines’ “The Nutcracker” will run from December 17 to 18, at the CCP Main Theater. Tickets range from P500 to P3,000 for a single production and P2,880 to P4,800 for two productions.

For tickets and more information, you can visit the Ballet Philippines website.

See you at the theater!
