We’ll be seeing Intramuros in Lego form soon

You might have already seen the impressive Lego architecture models: Miniature versions of great landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Buckingham Palace in London, and the Empire State Building in New York, rendered in the plastic toy blocks from our childhood.

Now we might just get to see a more familiar site in Lego form, thanks to the toy brand’s partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT). The iMake History Fortress Architecture competition hosted by the DOT calls college students to create scale model designs of iconic landmarks in Intramuros, 70 percent of which should be made of Lego bricks.

In a report by Inquirer.net, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo says the contest “aims to encourage youthful Filipino visionaries, particularly architecture and engineering students, to deepen their appreciation of our diversely rich history.”

Aside from having their designs housed at the Baluarte de Santa Barbara Chamber in Intramuros, the winning team will also receive a P50,000 prize. There’s also a special prize for the most innovative design that uses eco-friendly materials.
