The Super Bowl is undoubtedly a huge night to tune in to your TV—or in our case, our social media feeds. Whether you’re a fan of American football or just pop culture in general, you’re in for a surprise. Quite frankly, I have no idea what those guys are doing on the pitch. I usually just wait for a mind-blowing half time performance, the most awaited movie TV spots, and ads that subvert the formula.
While Justin Timberlake unfortunately did not deliver or redeem himself—Janet Jackson fans, rejoice!—we did get quite a number of exciting blockbusters to look out for this year. That is, if Black Panther doesn’t already steal the show when it premieres later this month.
Red Sparrow
Release date: Mar. 2
Hmm, not digging Jennifer Lawrence’s faux Russian accent in this one. Quite interesting that she flies through bird motifs from mockingjay to sparrow. It kind of feels like the Black Widow spinoff movie we may never get.
A Quiet Place
Release date: Apr. 6
John Krasinski directs and stars alongside his wife Emily Blunt in this semi-silent supernatural thriller. We don’t know much beyond the written premise “If they can hear you, they hunt you,” but pair that with the trailer’s sneaky buildup and we are hooked.
Avengers: Infinity War
Release date: May 4
Marvel really knows how to keep us on our toes. The 30-second teaser didn’t reveal much—though we did spot a new Captain America shield. It gives just the right taste of how massive this cast and film is set up to be. As Iron Man says, “It’s all been leading to this.”
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Release date: May 25
Fans were relieved of their skepticism toward Han Solo’s origins movie narrating how he became a star pilot. Judging from the visuals and Donald Glover playing Lando, this looks like a visual and action-packed treat.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Release date: Jun. 22
This is the fifth installment to the Jurassic Park franchise. Which has me wondering, when will humans finally learn not to mess with dinosaurs and DNA? Still looking forward to Blue coming back, though.
Skyscraper
Release date: Jul. 13
Dwayne Johnson always seems to star in family films, though he alternates between lighthearted and action-packed. This time, he’s rescuing his on-screen family from a building on fire. Agoraphobes might want to sit this one out.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout
Release date: Jul. 27
Ethan Hunt goes on another—surprise, surprise—impossible mission. There’s a car chase, some explosions. Not much is new besides a bearded Henry Cavill. But again, Tom Cruise does his own death-defying stunts, and that might just be enough.
