Would it still matter whether Kiki loved you if you get caught by the MMDA doing yet another stupid online fad?
We don’t think so.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned motorists last Tuesday, Jul. 31, that doing the latest craze #InMyFeelings challenge could get them in trouble legally—they could face fines for violating the following traffic rules: Anti-Distracted Driving Act (RA 10913) and reckless driving law.
The dance challenge involves three players: the dancer who’d step out of the moving car to strut to that Drake song, the driver who has to limit the vehicle’s speed to 5 kph, and the cameraperson who has to keep the backseat door ajar while recording. The busier the road they do it on, the better for the bragging rights and the likes.
MMDA Task Force Special Operations commander Bong Nebrija told Inquirer.net that they are imposing an at least P2,500 fine against caught challengers. These people aren’t only putting their own lives at risk, but also other motorists’.
Under the reckless driving law, violators wouldn’t only have to pay fine—their driver’s license would be confiscated and they would be required to attend driving seminars.
Those caught violating the anti-distracted driving law, on the other hand, will be fined P5,000 for the first offense, P10,000 for the second, and P15,000 for the third.
Nebrija explained that as much as he doesn’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, “Ang sa amin lang, ilagay nila sa tamang lugar na hindi sila makakadisgrasya o hindi sila madisisgrasya.”
The Department of Transportation discourages motorists from participating in the craze, too.
“Hindi man po namin mapipigilan ang lahat sa kanilang “expression of feelings,” tandaan na bawal po itong gawin sa mga kalsada, lalung-lalo na kung umaandar ang sasakyan at ikaw ang drayber!” they wrote on Facebook.
