Panda Express, the largest Chinese food chain in the US, announced last year that it will be opening five branches in the country through a partnership with Jollibee Food Corp. Since this announcement, it has become one of the most anticipated food franchise to land in Manila.
On Monday, Sept. 30, JFC finally revealed where the first of its five stores will be opened: at SM Megamall. It did not, however, say when it is slated to open.
Founded in 1983, Panda Express’s first branch opened in Glendale, California. It now has 2,000 outlets worldwide.
The Chinese food chain is known for its popular orange chicken dish, which originated from one of its Hawaii branches some 30 years ago. According to a report, they exceeded their record 80 million pounds of orange chicken sold in 2017 by 10 million pounds last year.
Thrillist describes this legacy dish as “Skinless dark meat chicken battered and deep-fried, then finished in that classic Chinese style of wok-tossed over a scorching jet burner flame with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and chiles that bolsters the savory side of the glaze, honey and brown sugar on the sweet end, while Chinese black vinegar and orange peel oil provides the acid.”
