In line with the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched a microsite dedicated to tourists who will be visiting the country for the biennial sporting event.
“As we are geared towards sustainable tourism, [the SEA Games] is an important opportunity for our country to showcase the best of the Philippines in a very accessible manner,” DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said in an official statement.
With an estimated number of 11,000 people arriving in the Philippines for the games, the microsite encourages these guests to visit and explore the country’s top travel destinations. Geared not just for foreigners but local tourists as well, the site features popular travel destinations divided according to region, upcoming “hidden gems” that you can sort through based on interests, and of course, pertinent information about the SEA Games.
With the objective of providing quality tourism experiences for visitors to the Philippines, the site is a helpful one-stop shop for many travel inquiries. It offers useful information regarding Philippine cultural heritage sites, must-try local cuisines and products, travel routes and transfers, tour packages and itineraries, and DOT-accredited hotels. Similar to the DOT’s main website, the SEA Games tourism microsite is powered by its official partner Guide to the Philippines. This partnership comes with special tour packages with promotional rates for the whole duration of the SEA Games.
Some tour packages and activities that tourists can avail through the website are guided cultural tours in Manila, heritage tours and nature exploration in the Ilocos region and Zambales, diving activities in Batangas, and wakeboarding and recreational activities in Pampanga and Tarlac.
Aside from the microsite, 9,000 trained volunteers have also been delegated to tourism information counters situated in airports and hotels where SEA Games delegates are accommodated. This is to provide assistance to tourists looking for information on nearby destinations or to assist them in their purchase of local items.
