Cavite-Manila to only take 15-40 mins with new “water jeepneys” and it’s free till Jan 2020

Traveling via the new ferry service from Cavite to Manila is expected to cut the usual three-hour commute to 15 to 45 mins. This is according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), as they launched the new Cavite-Manila ferry line yesterday, Dec. 8.

In line with this, DOTr also announced that rides—priced at P160 for Cavite City Port Terminal (CCPT) to the Cultural Center of the Philippines route, and P200 for the CCPT to Liwasang Bonifacio, Lawton Ave.—will be free starting today, Dec. 9 until Jan. 9 for Cavite-CCP route and until Jan. 31 for Cavite-Lawton route.

There will be two vessels under the new ferry service: the MV Seaborne Mercury (Cavite-CCP), which can carry up to 27 passengers, and the MV Island Sabtang, which can transport up to 57 passengers.

Rides beginning Dec. 9 will start as early as 5 a.m.

DOTr says it is still pushing to lower the current fare to make it competitive to other alternative mass transport options.

After Jan. 9, passengers of the CCP-Cavite route will have to pay P200, with discounts for students (P160), senior citizens and persons with disabilities (P143), and children aged four to 11-years-old (P125).

The Lawton-Cavite route will charge P160 for regular passengers starting Feb. 1, with discounts for students (P128), for senior citizens and PWDs (P114), and for children (P80). Those aged three and under are free.
