In terms of creating a comfortable and visually appealing space, furniture that emphasizes both function and aesthetic is usually a requisite. Mariel Marc, a Filipino-Canadian designer based in the Philippines, has achieved international acclaim for combining form and function with her newly released planter side table. By incorporating nature into interior design, the table provides a breath of fresh air for indoor spaces.
The planter side table includes a flat surface and a three-part lid, which opens into a planter. To place a plant, simply remove the lid, insert the plant, and flip the semicircular pieces of the lid upside down to reveal a raised blue box. The box prevents foreign objects from entering the pot, and secures the plant’s falling leaves. Once you’ve set up the plant, you can grab a book and read right beside your own personal greenery indoors.
Experimenting with geometric forms, Marc designs furniture with curves, edges, and unconventional shapes to provide a modern look. Her designs prioritize functionality while still keeping an aesthetically pleasing design.
Marc’s table will be exhibited at the Interior Design Show in Toronto happening from Jan. 16 to 19. The exhibition features internationally acclaimed designs and campaigns generated by local designers and legacy brands alike. Check out more of Mariel Marc’s works at marielmarc.com.
