‘Every Brilliant Thing’ and ‘Lungs’ make a rerun at this special theater festival

The Sandbox Collective and 9 Works Theatrical kick off a new season with a theater festival featuring works of English playwright Duncan Macmillan—specifically, with reruns of two sold-out plays, “Every Brilliant Thing” and “Lungs.”

Kakki Teodoro in “Every Brilliant Thing”

Philstage Gawad Buhay nominees Teresa Herrera and Kakki Teodoro both return to their roles as the lead in the one-woman play, “Every Brilliant Thing.” Critically acclaimed for not only being an engaging, interactive piece but also for being one that deftly navigates through the difficult subject of depression and mental health, “Every Brilliant Thing”’s rerun is another timely reminder about the importance of mental health and of furthering the conversation on it.

Jake Cuenca and Sab Jose, both of whom received Gawad Buhay nominations for their performances in 2018, reprise their roles as M and W in this 2020 run of “Lungs.” The play revolves around a young couple, and is an intimate examination of their relationship and the (and their) future as they begin to consider (or reconsider) starting a family.

While Jenny Jamora and Andrei Pamintuan both return to direct “Every Brilliant Thing” and “Lungs” respectively, the two plays will have Jodinand Aguillon as production designer and Miguel Panganiban as lighting designer in the plays’ shared space.

The festival, which they dubbed Sandbox Fest 2020, will feature the two plays from Mar. 6 to Mar. 29 at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater in BGC. There will be a back-to-back performance on Mar. 28, for which festival passes will be available until Feb. 21.
