Cinemalaya film fest postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic

In an effort to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission, Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. officially announced the indefinite postponement of the 16th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

“We recognize the health and safety hazards that film production might pose on filmmakers and workers as they strive to meet the original deadline for the competition,” said Cinemalaya organizers in a statement last Saturday, Mar. 21.

The festival committee also commended filmmakers for their “independent initiatives to use the digital medium to inform, instruct and inspire” during this trying time.

Founded in 2005, Cinemalaya is one of the largest film festivals in the country and has supported the production of over 150 full-length independent films.
