The residents of Cabuyao and Los Baños of Laguna, along with Baguio City, will be receiving produce and vegetable seeds respectively from their local government units (LGUs) during the enhanced community quarantine.
The city of Cabuyao has set up a “Harvest On The Go” program. The vegetables here are from farmers in Cabuyao and will be distributed among locals. Included among the produce are more than 5,000 kilos of squash, 40 kilos of tomatoes, and 21 kilos of pechay.

In an interview with Inquirer.net, municipal agriculturist Cheryll T. Laviña-Gonzales said that Los Baños’ seed distribution is a regular program of their office, wherein they distribute assorted vegetable seeds and seedlings of pechay, mustasa, okra, tomato, string beans, and more.
The residents who want to receive seeds or seedlings can simply message the Facebook page of the municipal agriculture office and it will be sent to their respective barangays for pickup.
Meanwhile, Baguio City has also packed seedlings of okra, garden peas, pole beans, onions, eggplants, and more for distribution among their barangays. The seedlings are intended to be used for “survival gardens” wherein civilians can cultivate their own produce just as well.
Through these efforts, their residents can engage in possible gardening activities that can eventually provide them with sustainable and nutritious produce. The cities are also effectively practicing sustainable solutions that can also provide nutrition to the residents—something much needed to boost their immune system to ward off the virus. These will also help local farmers in maintaining an income and livelihood throughout the quarantine period.
