Yesterday, Mar. 23, tons of produce were at risk of going to waste due to travel restrictions of the enhanced community quarantine. Because of this, farmers and food producers are experiencing a lack of access to markets and in turn, a scarcity of income. The farmers have reached out to social media to search for potential buyers or to even give their produce for free in fear that it may rot.
To address this issue, Agrea, an organization dedicated to helping alleviate poverty in the agricultural sector, has implemented the “Move Food Initiative” which will deliver produce from farmers directly to your tables or markets. Included in the available produce are squash, ampalaya, cauliflower, carrots, eggplants and more. All are priced affordably following the commodity prices implemented by the Department of Agriculture.
Only bulk orders of the vegetables will be facilitated with a minimum order of five kilograms per produce and a 100 kilograms of produce in total per order. The deliveries will be done per zonal area, which includes only select areas from Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Makati, Taguig and Pasig for now. Check their online form for the full list and submit this after filling up the necessary information.
Upon submissions, the Agrea team will review the order and will send you the invoice upon approval which includes the total cost and steps for payment. Once paid, the customer must send proof of payment to their email at delivery@agrea.ph.
Deliveries are to be expected every weekend after the cutoff of orders every Friday, 1 p.m. The list of produce is also updated every Tuesday on the same Google Form.
Likewise, the Global Shapers Community Manila Hub is partnering with Agrea to deliver farm fresh produce to LGUs to provide their residents with free and nutritious produce during the quarantine period. The project called, Project Buy-Anihan, aims to handle the logistics of the farm pick-up and transportation to the local barangays.
Cities like Mandaluyong, Iriga and Cabuyao have also taken on the initiative of providing their constituents with nutritional farm fresh produce in order to boost their immune systems and also provide sustainability for local farmers.
