Motorcycle backrides are prohibited during the enhanced community quarantine

As part of the enhanced community quarantine guidelines on social distancing, the Department of Transportation announced that motorists with a backride are prohibited in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to Assistant Transport Secretary Goddes Libiran, the ban on motorcycle backrides has been in effect since Mar. 16 and is valid for the entirety of the quarantine period. This clarification was made after several motorists were apprehended for violating the social distancing rule by having a backride.

“When you’re inside your own home, you’re free to do whatever you want or follow your own rules,” Libiran explained. “But if you’re outside, especially when you’re on roads and public places, you have to toe the regulations and policies set by the government to uphold order and uniformity.”
