Makati adds 4 more emergency quarantine centers for COVID-19 patients

In order to accommodate more COVID-19 patients and persons under investigation (PUI), the City of Makati has begun constructing four additional emergency quarantine centers.

According to Makati Mayor Abby Binay, the additional facilities are being constructed with the help of donors from the private sector. The facilities are designed by WTA Architecture and Design Studio.

Three of these additional emergency quarantine centers are located in Pembo Elementary School, while one is being built at the parking area of Ospital ng Makati. Expected to be completed immediately, each facility is made of wood and polyethene sheet and contains 15 beds, sanitation and disinfection areas, a testing box and one resting area for the medical staff.

“We have taken strategic measures to battle this pandemic and flatten the curve of the virus. The city will continue to think of ways to make sure that every Makatizen is safe and healthy,” Binay said. She also noted that these additional facilities were built “to make sure that no people who are under quarantine will be forced to go home.”

Earlier in February, the Makati Friendship Suites in Barangay Cembo was converted to a temporary quarantine center that could accommodate 100 PUIs. Isolation areas for those exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 are also currently set up in the city’s barangay health centers.
