3 indie films you can watch free on new streaming platform Cinema ’76 @ Home

Homegrown microcinemas are finding ways to catch up with stay-at-home cinephiles during this pandemic. Cinema ’76, which started in San Juan and eventually branched out in Anonas, Quezon City, has now gone online.

Its new streaming platform called Cinema ’76 @ Home will bring film festival favorites that viewers may have missed in recent years to your computer and mobile screens. The best part is, some of them are free!

Now available for free streaming are three independent films in its roster: Cesar Hernando’s “Gayuma,” Jet Leyco’s “Matangtubig” and Lemuel Lorca’s “Water Lemon.”

“Gayuma” dir. Cesar Hernando

Starring Benjamin Alves, Elora Españo, Phoebe Walker

Art student Mike (Benjamin Alvez) falls for his class’s elusive and mysterious figure drawing model, Stella. His love soon turns into obsession, leading him down a dark erotic path that unravels his own family’s history.

“Matangtubig” dir. Jet Leyco

Starring Amante Pulido, Sheilbert Manuel, Lance Raymundo

A town organizes a festival by the lake to cover up the dark mystery surrounding a girl’s death. Unknown to the residents, the lake is home to the very evil that they’ve tried to avoid.

“Water Lemon” dir Lemuel Lorca

Starring Junjun Quintana, Tessie Tomas, Meryll Soriano, Alessandra de Rossi, Lou Veloso

Several characters struggle against the limits of rural life in Mauban, Quezon. A grieving widow, a socially handicapped genius, and a helpless grandfather connect to save each other from small town blues.
