Our dearly beloved NAIA has finally got a win for the Philippines!
After being deemed as the worst airport in the world back in 2013, the folks over at Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has put in the work to transform our country’s major airport. Today, Mar. 22, we are finally enjoying the results as NAIA lists as the 10th most improved airport in the world.
As explained in the Department of Transportation’s Facebook post, the list is based on “the relative year-on-year quality performance by all airports featured in the World Airport Survey.” It’s part of the 2018 Skytrax World Airport Awards, which saw to 13.73 million airport surveys across 550 airports across the globe.

- Perth
- Calgary
- Taiwan Taoyuan
- Athens
- Nadi
- Montréal
- Moscow Sheremetyevo
- Houston Intercontinental
- Manila
In the face of this accomplishment, MIAA General Manager Eddie Monreal is humbled and makes sure to give acknowledgment to the stakeholders and the staff that helped make NAIA’s notable transformation possible.
Monreal admits that there is still plenty to be done in the airport. With the ongoing issue of the overcharging taxi drivers, the issue with customs, and syndicate operations still popping up, we can’t help but agree.
