Your download speeds just increased, according to this survey

There’s a very good reason your mobile data connection has been improving lately.

Speedtest results for February this year showed that download and upload speeds in the Philippines improved by 26 percent and 15 percent respectively for mobile. The download and upload speed for fixed broadband improved as well, with 51 percent and 72 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Telecommunications company Globe had a total of 10,300 LTE base stations, following the company’s deployment of LTE sites using the 700 megahertz (MHz), 1800 MHz, and 2600 MHz band at the end of 2017. This means that having more base stations would provide a stronger, more stable internet connection. Aside from having a greater footprint, network performance is also a function of network load and utilization which may impact download and upload speeds.

“Our LTE mobile data service is getting more pervasive,” says Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu. “We intend to continue investing on LTE to meet the demands of our customers for streaming and always-on digital services.”

True enough, more and more people are shifting to LTE-ready carriers and LTE-enabled phones. Mobile data is the largest contributor to mobile businesses, accounting for 44 percent of total mobile service revenues.
