Tropical storm Karding may have left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) last weekend, but the rain is expected to last until late this week. Karding is being regarded as Ondoy-like as it sent numerous towns into floods, especially areas like Marikina City which is said to have “almost 70 percent of its land area submerged in floodwater by Saturday,” Inquirer reports.
Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro told the Inquirer that the recent monsoon brought “150 to 170 mm. of rainfall in just five hours.”
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), both Karding, which has since moved out of PAR, and a new tropical storm Leepi (international name) will induce the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Forecasts by PAGASA note that there will be light to moderate rains from Tuesday to Thursday, which will “become heavy at times over northwestern and northern Luzon” while light to moderate rains will persist throughout Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon as well as western Visayas. Other areas of Visayas and Mindanao are seen to experience cloudy weather with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.
The weather might clear up a bit by Friday. By clear up, we mean there’s still rain, but just light with more clouds.
