You might’ve heard the news last year that the Philippine National Railways (PNR) will be launching the country’s first hybrid electric train as a response to the old, beat-up PNR trains that commuters have been accustomed to. The Filipino-made hybrid trains, which are made of lithium batteries instead of diesel, are said to bring a more comfortable commuting experience for the public.

And after years of development, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will finally be inaugurating the hybrid electric trains on Apr. 24, and you can be a part of it for free. In an announcement made yesterday, the DOST said that the public can join the inaugural run at the PNR Alabang Station in Muntinlupa. The trains will be bound for PNR Biñan Station, leaving at exactly 10:10 a.m.
Limited seats are available, but you can sign up here to confirm your attendance.
In the meantime, take note that the PNR will have no operations from Apr. 18 to 20. Operations will resume on Easter Sunday, with first trips at 1:37 p.m. from Tutuban to Alabang and 1:02 p.m. from Tutuban to General Pascual.
