Heads up, commuters: the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that provincial buses will no longer be allowed to pick-up and drop-off passengers along EDSA. Beginning today, the new rule is part of the dry-run of the provincial bus ban on EDSA that will be implemented this coming June.

In an announcement last Apr. 16, MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia explained that provincial buses “must only use their respective terminals in picking up and dropping off passengers since they travel point to point or directly from the terminal to the drop-off point.”
“All arriving passengers will be disembarked at the terminals. Plan and time your trip accordingly,” MMDA EDSA traffic head Bong Nebrija said in a text message to Inquirer.net. Moreover, bus operators are urged to use Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and other facilities located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Valenzuela City.
The MMDA also appealed to the public to “give the provincial bus ban a chance” because “it’s for the common good.” MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said that the agency welcomes comments and suggestions that would improve the policy.
