Good news for all students: The Department of Transportation is now offering free MRT 3, LRT 2, and PNR rides for students, which includes all levels as well as those taking undergrad studies and vocational courses, from Mondays to Fridays at select times (except holidays) starting Jul. 1. This is being implemented to help and encourage the youth to go to school, since transportation costs can affect a student’s attendance.
The schedule of the free rides is as follows:
LRT 2
- 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
MRT 3
- 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
PNR
- 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In order to avail of the free rides, students will need to fill out this form or head over to a Malasakit Help Desk and claim their Student Free Ride ID. During the pilot run, though, students can just present their school ID cards in lieu of the student pass.
Aside from the free train rides, students will now also be exempt from paying terminal fees from establishments under the Philippine Ports Authority.
