Generations of children all over the country will be familiar with the story of the Ibong Adarna, an epic poem about the journey of princes in search of the mythical bird that can cure their father, the king.
But now kids and students no longer have to rely on just their imagination and memory to bring this tale to life, as Repertory Philippines, through Rep’s Theater for Young Audiences, will be staging an English version of the epic this coming September.
Entitled The Quest for the Adarna, the musical features fun, child-friendly music, bright and colorful costumes, and will be brought to life by veterans and fresh faces in theater: Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, Andrea Monique Alvarado, and Cara Barredo lead the cast as the titular Adarna. They are joined by Arion Sanchez, Jim Andrew Ferrer, Ade Valenzona as Prince Pedro, Vinni Todd, Luis Marcelo, and Sean Nolasco as Prince Diego, and Leo John Guinid, Diego Aranda, and Neo Rivera as Prince Juan.
The Quest for the Adarna runs from Sept. 14 to Jan. 26, 2020 at Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1. For tickets, call Ticketworld at 891-9999 or visit ticketworld.com.ph.
