A guide to cleaning (almost) everything in the time of COVID-19

One of the basic ways we can keep ourselves protected from COVID-19 is by cleaning our homes and the objects that we come in contact with every day. With the rising number of cases and vital information about the virus remaining unknown, however, people begin to question if they’ve taken enough steps to prevent spreading the virus or if they’re cleaning their spaces the right way.

With that in mind, we’ve put together some tried and tested tips on how to ensure that your space and belongings are virus-proof.

Your space

Although staying at home can help curb the spread of COVID-19, our homes aren’t exactly a safe haven against it—especially when we’re bringing in groceries and other items from outside. Here are some ways to keep your house and everything you bring in virus-free.

Everyday objects

Studies show that coronavirus can live on inanimate surfaces like metal, glass or plastic for up to nine days. While research has yet to show how the virus can react to different surfaces, it’s best to stay on the safe side and disinfect the items we use everyday.

Food items

With concerns about food possibly harboring viruses, there have been a number of guides shared on how to clean up food items—some of which can be detrimental, as these are not backed by scientific evidence and make use of harmful substances.

Please wash your fruits and vegetables—but not with bleach. Do this instead
