PH can now conduct 12,000 COVID-19 tests daily

The country’s COVID-19 mass testing capacity has now increased from 5,000 tests per day to 12,000 per day, bringing the Department of Health closer to its target of conducting 30,000 tests a day by May 30.

According to National Task Force COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon, the increase in mass testing capacity can be attributed to additional laboratory testing centers being set up nationwide. Four mega swabbing centers located in Metro Manila and Bulacan have also begun operations this week.

Dizon also announced that the government will be setting up 50 more testing laboratories within the month, most of which are in the last stages of accreditation. This is on top of 20 testing laboratories from the government and private sector.

As of writing, the country has recorded a total of 10,343 confirmed cases, with 685 fatalities and 1,618 recoveries. A total of 145,586 tests have been conducted nationwide, according to DOH’s latest bulletin.
