It’s not rainy season yet, PAGASA says despite rains this weekend

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), a large part of the country may continue experiencing partly cloudy skies that could bring thunderstorms and rain on Thursday night until Friday.

Despite the possible rains, PAGASA said that there are no low-pressure areas inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Although weather forecasts today (May 21) showed that these clouds can bring isolated thunderstorms and rain showers across the country. The northern tip of Luzon would, however, experience rains due to the stationary front—a frontal system which generates clouds when cold and warm air meet.

However, temperatures in Metro Manila amid the recent scattered downpours will remain high, ranging from 27 to 35 degrees Celsius on Friday and 26 to 34 degrees by Saturday.

Likewise, Cebu City and Davao City are expected to have temperatures between 27 to 34 degrees Celsius, and 24 to 34 degrees, respectively.

Fisherfolk and small boat operators can also set sail as sea condition remains to be slight to moderate in all seaports of the country and no gale warning has been raised.

Earlier, PAGASA revealed that actual temperatures and heat indices are still high, knocking off notions that the country is transitioning to the rainy season. With a 47 degrees Celsius heat index recorded in Tanauan City in Batangas, Legazpi City, and Sangley Point in Cavite.

In Metro Manila, meteorologists were able to register a scorching 42 degrees Celsius heat index in the Science Garden at Quezon City.

PAGASA released temperature numbers for Wednesday, with Echague in Isabela still topping the list at 37 degrees Celsius, followed by Tuguegarao City (36.3 degrees), Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya (36 degrees), Catbalogan City (35.8 degrees), and Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac (35.8).

Thus, in a Facebook post the state weather bureau says: “PAALALA: Nasa panahon pa rin tayo ng tag-init kaya dalasan pa rin ang pag-inom ng tubig at bawasan ang physical activities sa tanghali/hapon para maiwasan ang heat stress. Ingat po!”
