Last month, a Facebook post by Ifugao Highland Farmers’ Forum revealed that farmers in the Ifugao province have been struggling to sell their tomatoes due to travel and transportation restrictions. With no way to transport their produce over long distances, farmers have been forced to sell them at low prices, give them away or dispose of them.

Unfortunately, this is still an issue that farmers in the area continue to face. Aside from transportation restrictions, farmers also have no way of safely storing their produce for transport, which compromises their quality and results in five to 10 tons of tomatoes being disposed per day.
If you’d like to help out, you can buy produce from businesses who are helping these farmers transport their tomatoes to Metro Manila. One of these is Rural Rising PH, a Facebook page that links farmers to consumers.
On Friday, June 12, the team behind Rural Rising PH will be sending out trucks and stackable crates to the farmers of Tinoc, Ifugao. The crates that they will be delivering to the farmers will be enough to store 5,000 kilos of tomatoes for consumers in Metro Manila, which will arrive by the following day.
These tomatoes will be sold at P499 per 50 kilograms, and can be delivered through Lalamove or picked up at their office in UP Village by Sunday, June 14. To place an order, sign up through this link.
