6 IG shops for every home redecorator’s woven handicraft needs

One of my favorite things about decluttering is getting to reorganize items and place them in pretty storage containers. From wooden crates to foldable storage boxes with dainty designs, you name it and I’ve probably used it.

However, woven baskets are my favorite storage items among all. Usually made from rattan or abaca, these are perfect for your small yet essential items. Aside from baskets, other wicker products that I love are placemats and rugs (they’re just so much easier to clean.)

My family’s go-to when it comes to anything woven is Tagaytay because it’s just a short drive away from where we live. It’s also a great place to find local businesses in the wicker furniture and home accessories industry—in fact, you can literally spot small shops offering different kinds of rattan and abaca products by the roadside.

But since we’re staying home (non-essential trips are still a no-no,) here are some local shops (still small businesses, of course) which you can check out online for your wicker needs this week.

For storage boxes and baskets

Whether it’s your room or your pantry that you’re reorganizing, Magayon Handmade has a storage box or basket that suits your needs. Take your pick from crate, harvest or file baskets as well as CD or regular rectangular trays and cop them from this online retailer of locally handmade crafts.

Got kids? Keep their room tidy by storing their toys and other items in these baskets from Vinta. Their woven trays, plant boxes and bags are made by local artisans.

For placemats and coasters

Need a pretty placemat or coaster to go along with the ceramic tableware you just got from these IG shops? Check out these braided pieces from Hemplus PH.

For rugs

Care for some abaca rugs? Welcome these pieces from Buklod Crafts to your home by placing a pre-order on their website (up to July 12 only, at the moment.) They’re also only resuming production of new items now after stopping temporarily in March, which makes it a good time to show some support.

Pushing for a sustainable lifestyle, Karavan PH offers a wide selection of tableware and home products made of materials like acacia, mimosa and abaca. This abaca rug, which is handwoven with a pineapple-weaved pattern, is just among their items which can help you easily elevate your home style.

For decorations

Aside from baskets of different styles, Purveyors of Local (also known as PULO) has an assortment of wicker home decors—such as this cute Pawikan wall accessory.

If you’re looking for textiles and wearable weaves such as clothing and face masks, there are also various projects that help in connecting you to indigenous weaving communities directly. Check out Cult.ph and Maco Custodio for some products.
