There’s ube-flavored everything these days—including liqueur. In case you haven’t heard, local distillery (and plausible alchemy workshop) Agimat has come out with a new drink that’ll make your ube-loving heart sing.
The endemic purple root crop has gotten the party treatment by way of Ube Cream Liqueur (P1,199). It is made with locally sourced sugarcane vodka from Negros and full cream blended with the iconic purple ube.
According to chef Kalel Demetrio, his childhood celebrations were the main inspiration for Agimat’s latest sweet treat.
“Ube has [always been] part of mine and every Filipino’s childhood. It relates to happy memories. From the fiesta in Tondo and every province we visited there’s always ube, which is for me one of the main events in every dining episode in fiestas,” Demetrio shared through a Facebook post.
“It was a natural catalyst for me growing in the industry to [relive] those happy memories through different concoctions in all my concepts here in the Philippines as a consultant and beverage director,” he added.
Ube Cream Liqueur is best served neat, on the rocks, or as a secret halo-halo ingredient to keep the party going.
Ube isn’t the first dessert that has received Agimat’s boozy treatment.
If you’re not a fan of alcohol-tasting alcohol, Agimat’s Kanto Salted Caramel Vodka (P899) is another option you can add to your in-house bar.
Sip lightly, though. It tastes a lot like actual caramel, so you might forget it’s actually vodka.
You can shop both Ube Cream Liqueur and Kanto Salted Caramel Vodka on Boozy and at Agimat at Ugat Foraging Bar.
