iPhones have had many supposedly amazing features that I’ve already lost track of. One really helpful tool that’s been introduced in early 2022 was the Visual Look Up. Part of iOS 15’s arsenal, it helps you identify objects in a photo you took. These include plants, for aspiring and practicing plant parents who want to find out what species they are looking for or already have.
Then again, there have always been plant identifier apps. What’s great about iPhone’s Visual Look Up is that other than flora, it also identifies landmarks, art, and dog breeds.

Take a photo of the object you want to find out more about. Go to your Photos app, click on the photo you took, and swipe up to reveal more information about the photo.
It will show you a paw icon for recognized pets and animals, and a leaf icon for plants and flowers. Tap on those for the Visual Look Up to provide results from Siri Knowledge and the web. It will show you the dog’s breed, and for plants, their scientific name.
You can also access this feature through apps like Notes, Mail, or Messages. Just touch and hold an image to select it.
