Grab plans to impose penalty on cancellations made by passengers

Ride-hailing application Grab may soon charge passengers for cancelled bookings. This is according to its marketing head Cindy Toh who confirmed that they are reviewing the possibility.

However, Toh admitted that the actual implementation of the plan may take some time since most users are still paying in cash. But she assured that it can be done, saying, “For sure we can implement it quickly to credit card users”.

The mechanism is similar to its former competitor, Uber’s cancellation fee charging which imposes a P100 penalty for trips that the passengers cancel. Uber was acquired by Grab in March.

Grab has recently been flooded by complaints made by users who reportedly had difficulties with cancellation, saying that some drivers refused to cancel the trips on their end.

The transport network company (TNC) admitted that there is a spike in driver cancellation rates last month since the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) suspended its P2 per minute travel charge in its fare system.
