Choco butternut fans, here are other desserts inspired by your favorite flavor

One of the desserts I missed the most during the lockdown was Dunkin’s Choco Butternut munchkins. Since the donut company couldn’t deliver to our area for a few months, I turned to local bakers who’ve been releasing pastries inspired by the well-loved donut flavors.

We’ve talked about bakers turning the choco butternut into cakes and loaves, but that’s not the only version that choco butternut enthusiasts can enjoy. Here are other desserts people can find:

Dream cake

Here’s a fresh spin on the gooey chocolate dream cake we all know and love: a choco butternut-flavored version. While this dream cake has fewer layers than the ones we’re accustomed to, it combines the soft texture of a choco butternut donut with a silky chocolate fudge center.

One shop that offers this is Grilled and Baked. Their choco butternut dream cake is priced at P400, served in a 6×2 tub.

Crinkles

If you’re looking for bite-sized iterations of the choco butternut, you can get crinkles instead. This dessert retains the soft texture of the donut and replaces the powdered donut coating with orange butternut crumbs.

You can find choco butternut crinkles all over Instagram, but we recommend getting a few pieces from House of Crinkles. Their version of crinkles is also coated with desiccated coconut.

Cookies

Ever wondered what choco butternut cookies would taste like? You don’t have to wonder much longer: there are crunchy cookies that combine the sweetness of chocolate with the slight coconut flavor of butternut.

This combination is available at Bertie’s Artisan Bakeshop. Their marbled cookies combine butternut spiced dough with chocolate butter cookie dough

Silvanas

Over the past few years, we’ve seen local bakeries try their hand at recreating silvanas with different flavors—including one inspired by the beloved Dunkin’ flavor. This version of the buttercream and cashew-meringue cookies is coated with bright orange butternut streusel.

This version of silvanas is available at Sweet EsCakes, and come in two shapes: bite-sized balls or the regular circular shape.
