We haven’t even moved on yet from the dismantling of Philam Life Theater but creative art space and gallery Pineapple Lab has already bid its goodbye, too.

In a Facebook post, creative director Andrei Pamintuan said: “One last walk-thru of Pineapple Lab as we say goodbye to our beloved space on Palma Street. […] I just want to say that I am so thankful to each and everyone of you. And I’m so, so, so sorry to the many artists who called us their home.”
Not an easy decision
Pamintuan admitted that it was hard for them to close the hub. “But we have to take this time to pause for a bit, deal with the grief so we can pick ourselves up and create something that will enable us to continue our work and be there for the community,” read his post.
“While we let go of our space, we hang on to all the memories and lessons learned until we can make new ones again. Magkikita pa tayo, pramis. Maraming maraming salamat po from the bottom of my pinya. The work continues and we cannot wait for what’s in store: here, far, wherever we are!” Pamintuan concluded.
Continuing Pineapple Lab’s legacy online
Pineapple Lab might be closing its physical space but it will continue to thrive online through FringeMNL. At present, they’re collaborating with the Bangsamoro Short Film Festival and United Kingdom-based Inventory Platform for some virtual projects. They’re also working with Guest Projects for their “Where I’m Coming From” exhibition.
Pamintuan said in an interview that they are “committed to being a platform to artists and working with our communities beyond the four walls.” They’re also planning to move their new headquarters at the Draper Start Up House in Burgos, Makati “to create new memories” with their artists.
Pineapple Lab was home to many Filipino art makers, global artists and collaborators. It served as a venue for art festivals, stage performances and exhibits. The space was widely known for its LGBTQ-focused projects and events like “Gayborhood Night” and “Juicy Fruits Film Fiesta.”
