Is it time to finally establish the Philippines as one of the top countries that produce world-class chocolates? We think so, especially with recent honors that local chocolate brands have brought home this year.
On Dec. 13, the international organization Academy of Chocolate announced the final results of its annual competition for chocolate makers all over the world. And among the winners that bagged multiple awards was proudly local chocolatier Auro Chocolate, which took home a total of 10 commendations.
Auro’s 32 percent White Chocolate was the sole winner of the gold prize for the “tree to bar–white” chocolate category. Two products from its recent limited-edition tropical terno-designed collaboration with designer Lesley Mobo and chef Victor Magsaysay, namely Si Aida and Si Fe, were also awarded gold for the “tree to bar–flavored” chocolate category.

Meanwhile, the chocolate brand’s 100 percent hot chocolate with milk won bronze in the “hot chocolate plain for milk” product category. Having tasted Auro’s products to the competition before, the Academy of Chocolate noted that the chocolatier showed “strong growth in quality” this year.
“It is again a true honor and privilege to do what we love everyday. We will never stop as we promise to continue to learn and strive for the best in representing quality Filipino-made chocolate on the world stage. Thank you always for your continued support! Congratulations to all of us!” wrote Auro Chocolate’s team on Instagram.
Fellow local chocolatier Malagos Chocolate also won three silver and a bronze award from the competition. Among its products commended was the rum truffle for the “alcohol-flavored ganache” category.
