Award-winning film “Birdshot” is coming to Netflix next week

Looks like Birdshot’s international journey to fame isn’t over yet.

After snatching the Best Picture award in the Asian Future category at the 2016 Tokyo International Film Festival and representing the Philippines at the 2018 Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category, the mystery-thriller coming-of-age film by Mikhail Red will soon get a place on Netflix.

Birdshot is a mesmerizing thriller that’s beautifully shot and since its debut, the movie has been widely recognized by critics, and we are confident that it will equally resonate with the more than 117 million Netflix members globally,” said Robert Roy, VP of Content Acquisition at Netflix.

The film’s director is excited and hopeful for this recognition as well. “It’s such a profound feeling, having your stories and imagination come to life and be shared with millions of streaming subscribers across the globe. I hope this also helps open doors for other Filipino filmmakers,” he said.

The film, presented by TBA Studios, Globe Studios, and Pelikula Red, will be available on the video streaming platform starting Mar. 26.

Birdshot follows the story of Maya (Mary Joy Apostol), a 14-year-old farm girl who intruded a Philippine forest reserve and mistakenly killed a critically endangered Philippine Eagle for food. Local authorities begin to search for the criminal and an even more horrific discovery gets unraveled throughout the investigation.
